WHAT IS REHABILITATIVE THERAPY?
Most people see the title to this class and think it is all about drug and alcohol rehab. Although we might discuss that at some point, the class is about careers associated with helping patients recover after debilitating injuries or illnesses. Some of the careers we focus on are Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Massage Therapy, Art and Music Therapy and many more.
This class belongs within the Therapeutic Clusters in our Department. Students who enroll in the Therapeutic Focus in high school would also take courses such as Medical Therapeutics and EMS.
I love this class. We build our own websites and create our own business that focuses on these careers. We learn to present, apply hands on care, communicate and apply critical thinking skills. The students get really involved and creativity comes alive in those students that never knew they were creative. This is not a class for someone that doesn't want to get up and be involved. This class is designed to spark an interest in these fields or to bring incite to those who wish to work in the medical field. It is not a "hard" class. It is challenging however and one must work hard to keep up!
If your not sure about what you want to do and are exploring your options then this class will give you a large variety of careers to choose from in the health field.
Rehab students get MRC certification
Our class received Medical Reserve Corps certification to work in disaster triage.

these students than first hand experience and exposure. We are a very blessed community to have such caring and talented professionals
who invest in the futures of these students. We would like to send out a very special thank you from our class to everyone for their time"

Recreational Therapist from NHC comes to teach about her career!
Bridget Barger from NHC Scott Healthcare came to speak to our Rehabilitative Therapies Class about the field of Recreational Therapy and her role in the Healthcare setting. Students were then given disabilities to role play, paralysis, blindness, contractures and etc. and asked to make "ice cream sundaes" with these disabilities and to eat them with their disabilities. This was a great lession to promote empathy for their patients.
Rehab Students Learn Legal and Ethical Issues through a Mock Trial!
My students elected to learn about legal and ethical issues through performing in a Mock Trial case that involved a case of patient abuse. Fortunately in this case the nurse was found NOT Guilty! These students had a fun time learning about the law and how it is implemented in a Health Care Professional's Life.
